For every learner
A shared framework
British values sit at the heart of the HyFlex curriculum and are embedded across every area of learning. They are not a standalone lesson tucked into a Tuesday, they are the framework through which we teach, relate and operate as a community.
The five, Democracy, the Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, and Tolerance of those with Different Faiths and Beliefs, offer a shared, meaningful language that is relevant to every learner, whatever their background, heritage or educational history.
VALUE 01
Democracy
Every learner has a voice in their own plan. Goal setting is a real three-way conversation, young person, mentor, family, and each education plan is reviewed with the learner, not simply about them. In PSHE, they explore how democracy actually works: locally, nationally, and in the quieter negotiations of everyday life.
VALUE 02
The rule of law
The HyFlex model is structured and consistent, deliberately so. Clear boundaries, transparent consequences and predictable routines create the safety that lets a young person risk being wrong. Learners come to understand their rights and their responsibilities, in school and in the world beyond it.
VALUE 03
Individual liberty
Baselining is our practical expression of individual liberty. Every plan is bespoke, different pace, different pathway, different environment, because forcing a young person into someone else’s shape is not liberty, it is compliance dressed up as school. Real choice means real options.
VALUE 04
Mutual respect
Trauma-informed practice runs through the whole day. How we greet. How we correct. How we regulate together in the difficult moments, and how we repair afterwards. Learners see respect modelled by the adults around them, and are held, gently and firmly, to the same standard themselves.
VALUE 05
Tolerance of differences
Our learners arrive from many places: SEN, SEMH, EHCPs, care experience, cultural and religious diversity. That mix is not a challenge to manage, it is an asset to teach with. Humanities, PSHE and the What’s the Point projects actively grow curiosity about difference, not just politeness around it.
